About this place

Kuuma runs two self-service saunas on the quay of the Marineterrein in Amsterdam, next to Pension Homeland and facing the Scheepvaartmuseum. Bjørk, black with a diagonal stripe, has stepped benches and a window onto the water and takes six people; Matsu, clad in wood with a U-shaped bench, takes eight and looks out on historic ships. Guests book a 75-minute slot online and receive a door code by text and email the day before. They pour water on the stove themselves and cool off with a bucket shower, a cold shower or a swim in the harbour. Sessions are communal, silent or women-only, and each sauna can be booked for a group. Swimwear is required.
